Project management

Client brief

“As project manager for this title I’m hoping that you’ll be happy to take on the copy-editing and typesetting yourself, and that you’ll send it out to one of our pool of freelancers for proofreading and indexing. You should be the main point of contact for the author and our in-house editorial assistant at all stages. I will give you their contact details at the end of this letter. To give you an idea of our schedule, we will need first page proofs by 13 March, and the final pdf by 3 July. The timings of all other stages are to be arranged and managed by you.”

What Wordsense did

Joanna Chisholm made a schedule and booked a proofreader and indexer; copy-edited the text as per the brief; cleared queries with the author and showed him the edited text; created page layouts for the book; sent proofs to the author, proofreader, indexer and in-house editorial assistant; took in proof corrections and index copy; and finally created a print-quality pdf for the client to send to the printer.
